Dear Saranac Lake Middle School Students and Families,
My name is Trish Wickwire and I am the middle school’s new Principal. I am thrilled to have been chosen to take on this new role in our district. Our middle school is known for having a creative, dedicated and positive staff and students of excellent character and I look forward to joining the SLMS family. I’ll be working every day to do the best that I can for our students and staff. In the past, I have served Saranac Lake Schools as a Spanish Teacher, Spanish Club Advisor, coach, and most recently, as a Technology Integration Specialist. I am excited to learn about our students: their passions, their skills, and their strengths. I hope to celebrate their victories, help them feel supported during difficult times, and encourage a warm and welcoming environment filled with learning opportunities here at school.
In spite of the ongoing construction, we are working hard to finalize student and teacher schedules, room assignments, and are already planning for the fall. We are excited to see the finished product when the construction is completed; it’s sure to improve not only the aesthetics of the building, but the safety of our students and staff as well. We are thrilled to have recently purchased new Chromebooks and this summer, we will offer teachers some great opportunities to learn how to best use those Chromebooks to foster student curiosity, collaboration and learning. I am also pleased to introduce Don Carlisto in his new role as our Dean of Students. Don brings many years of experience working with Middle School students and hopes to work together with our district families to promote a positive and enriching school experience for all of our kids. You can expect to receive your student’s full schedule and other pertinent information in the middle of August, however, the usual paperwork that requires parent signatures will come home from school on the first day of classes instead of in the mail (with additional copies available on our website).
Please feel encouraged to reach out anytime if you have questions, concerns, or if you’d just like to get to know me better.
